| Customer Reviews: Great Dorm Option September 4, 2010 D. Swaisgood (Akron, OH USA) I purchased this to use at school in the dorm. Makes great rice if you follow the directions. Haven't tried it with pasta yet.
Pasta made even easier and faster. August 31, 2010 J. Burney I have been looking for a microwaveable pasta cooker that could handle a pound (16oz) of pasta at a time,
And this is what I found in the Progressive International Microwaveable Rice/Pasta Cooker Set.
I had read the good and bad reviews, so I was worried that it would cook pasta,
But at the same time, it looked like a great product and very well thought out.
It came in the mail today and I set right out to use it. I first thoughts of the unit was,
very well made and included every thing you would need to get the job done.
So after washing the unit and setting out to dry, I started reading the instruction manual,
which took just a few seconds. To say the least, they are lacking for pasta cooking times.
Any ways, the pasta I was going to cook takes twelve (12) minutes to cook on the stove top
(11 minutes if you like it "al dente") added to already boiling water.
So you also need to bring the water to a boil in the microwave,
and I figured that would need another four (4) minutes.
So here what I did, I not use the `rack' dumped in one (1) pound of `Barilla' Penne pasta,
added 7 ½ cups of HOT tap water, closed up the cooker and set it in my 22 year old 1,100 watt microwave.
Set the cook time to 16 minutes and full power, now in the last four minutes of cooking,
I did have a very small amount of boil over, nothing to even worry about.
Use caution when removing the unit's lids, as the steam vents are under the handle of the first lid,
and the second lids removable releases a lot more steam.
The pasta was just the way I like it, did not heat up my house boiling water and took much less time.
So I say this is a great pasta cooker, if you take the time to figure it out.
