| Customer Reviews: love it September 3, 2010 Joan Mendel (Phoenix AZ.) I enjoyed my purchase, it was easy great product and arrived early. The seller discribed it well in the write up so I knew exactly what I was geting and was happy on the transaction.
Not enough information on product description August 21, 2010 S. Haslett (Sacramento County, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was thrilled at the quick delivery of this item, but was dissapointed when I read the "warning" on the pot's label. It said "do not use on glass stovetop". Unfortunately, I do have a glass stovetop, but I need to preserve my garden's harvest soon and I wanted to put up some pickles and jam in jars.
Luckily, I read on the Internet that I could use the burner on our gas barbeque. (If I had a Coleman or camp stove, I could use that instead) The barbeque's burner seemed to work OK, but it was inconvenient carrying everything outside to the patio.
If the warning about not using the canner on a glass stovetop had been included in the product description, I would have done more research and maybe I'd have bought another type canner.
Granite Ware 11 1/2 quart canner July 16, 2010 Kimberly Erickson (longmont, co) The canner is exactly what I wanted for jams and small batch preserving. My only
negative was that the lid was dented when I received it. This did not happen in
shipping and was an obvious flaw when they sent it out. It does not however harm the
integrity of the canner.
A small tipping problem June 30, 2010 Judy K. Polhemus (LA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Frankly, I could live without Granite Ware's 11/1-2 Quart Covered Preserving Canner with Rack, but now that I have one, why would I want to?
Prior to using this canner, I used a stock pot with a dish cloth laid on the bottom for the water bath. The jars would rattle together during the bath and make me think they would crash and break! I also used tongs to pluck each jar out of that scalding water. Now I simply use my new lifter to grasp the top of that freshly sealed pint jar and set on the counter top to turn over and sit for a few minutes while I wait for the seals to do their work.
Then I turn them back right side up and listen to them pop (indicates they are sealed).
In the canner the seven jars still kind of clink a bit and try to fall over, but they are safely contained in the bottom-of-the-canner rack! That tilting is a small price to pay for the graciousness of the bath system.
I'm very happy with this product!!
It's Ok March 23, 2010 L. Wiley (Texas) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am not a canning expert and this was my first canning purchase; I don't have much to compare it to, but the other reviews did help make my decision. (Now I am wondering could I have accomplished the same task with a Dutch Oven and a pair of tongs??). We used it to can tomatoes. It does not have a lot of instructions (which was fine with me). It came to a boil easily and was easy to clean up. It stores easily with my other large pots and pans. I was a bit worried that the metal was too thin or that it would scratch my glasstop stove, but it worked just fine. The tomatoes sealed perfectly. This is probably a good purchase for a beginner - who does not like to read/need instructions. You may want to use guidelines found on the internet on how to can, I found several versions that worked well.
