5 out of 5 stars Great cookware for the price   March 10, 2010
A. Gray (Central IL)
I read all of the reviews on this set prior to buying, and I must say that even despite a great, low price on this, I almost canceled my order. I am SO GLAD that I did not! It is true what people say in these reviews, know what you are getting and how to use it/care for it. The size of these pans are wonderful. I have used every single one of these because the sizes are very practical for everyday cooking. There are times where things will stick to the pan (as expected) when they are browning but a simple deglaze of the pan and you have wonderful food and gravy. I find most things are not a problem and all are correctable with little issue.

I initially used a metal spatula since the care instructions say that this is allowed (and one of the great freedoms in my mind of not having nonstick surfaces) as long as the metal is not pointed. The very first time I used the metal spatula, it resulted in little knicks in the bottom of my pan, and I was shocked. I didn't spear the pan or wasn't rough...my spatula was rounded. Overall I would advise NOT to use metal utensils with these pans. It's just simple that when metal gets hot, it weakens.

My other issue with the care of these pans (cleanup is very easy by the way) is that Calphalon recommends that for "like new" cleanup of pans to use Comet or Ajax however later on they say not to use any products for cleanup that contain bleach. This is a contradiction since both Comet and Ajax contain bleach, so I think I will need to contact Calphalon for clarification. I didn't see this until after I did my first wash but did not notice any harm.

Overall I would definitely recommend this set to anyone but just be aware that you have to treat it differently than nonstick surfaces. The food I cook in these pans turns out so much better, and I'm not worried about coating flaking off in my food or getting the pan too hot (although I cook with these on a lower temp because I do not find the need to turn it up higher). Do not be frightened like I almost was about buying these pans. They are wonderful!

I was recommended by a friend to purchase this Nine piece Calpahn set. I was so excited when I received my Calphan nine piece set. I thew my other T-Fal set which I had for over ten years and it was still in usable condition. I used the calphan frying pan to do some eggs and noticed that it was sticking to the pan. Then I
said that I thought it was supposed to be non-stick. Several days later I tried the other frying pan and noticed that it was sticking again while frying some sausages. I really was upset when the bottom of the frying pan started getting black at the bottom and was not going away when I decided to clean it for I wanted it to have the new look it has just been one week and this was happing. I had in mind to recommend several other friends and was going to purchase the other sets which include the stockpot and the 12 inch Pan with lid. I'm so dissapointed in the product and it looks to me that Calphan does not stand by it's name and I will not RECOMMEND ANYONE FOR THIS PRODUCT. I WILL LIKE MY FULL REFUND BACK TO MY CREDITCARD RIGHT AWAY.

5 out of 5 stars I was so pleased   March 6, 2010

I own quite a few of the better cookware of varying brands including this one but I always seemed to missing frying pans of just the right size and oftentimes the other pots would be way too small or huge for my needs. I ordered this set because the price was right and there were two skillets that were larger than what I currently have. I was just so surprised to open up the package and see stuff that was just right for my needs, Watch for the price fluctuations though and since alot of the calphalon sets look the same, remember to order this particular one.

4 out of 5 stars Great Deal for Good Pots and Pans   March 3, 2010
Bruce Pinn (Toronto, Ontario Canada)
I recently took a cooking course at Calphalon where we used Calphalon pans. I liked the pans so I decided to purchase a set. What I didn't like was their price so I searched around on the internet and came up with Amazon's deal. They're not quite the same pans as Calphalon's premier brand, but they're good enough for me and the limited amount of cooking that I do.
As everyone has pointed out, they're not non-stick. I knew this when I bought them and am quite used to working with non-stick pans. You need to take a little care when you cook, but if you do, you'll find these pans are far better to use. You can't brown food well in a non-stick pan. My only complaint with the pans is that their handles are a little small for my hands.
By the way, would people stop complaining about these pans having been made in China. I would be willing to wager that probably 90% of the consumer products you buy each year are made there. Before complaining you should ask yourself if you're willing to take a substantial cut in your pay so that the same products can be made in Canada or the USA. I expect your answer would be no.

1 out of 5 stars No Non-Stick   February 26, 2010

When I opened my package I was very disappointed in the quality of the items. I was surprised to see that the items although they resemble Caphlon they are not quite the quality I expected. I currently own other Caphlon products and in comparisson to these items they are no where near the same level of quality that the Calphon name is known for. I tried out one of the frying pans this morning and followed the instructions on the pamphlet to wash with soap and water and pretreat the pans. However, when I placed the pan on the stove with medium flame I noticed that the pan started to turn black at the bottom as well as my eggs stick to the pan aalthough I had lightly sprayed with cooking oil. Im very surprised that the scramble eggs I was trying to make instantly got stuck to the pan. These items are not non-stick I am very disappointed in the quality of these products.
