| Customer Reviews: Incredibly useful bowl set May 14, 2010 Richard Trafford-owen (Oakland, CA United States) This is a great set of bowls. I already had some cylindrical bowls with lids and mixing bowls without lids and the lids from my new set fit these as well. I use the larger bowls for proofing bread dough and used to put a lidless bowl in a plastic bag. The lids are much more convenient to clean up than the bag. The smallest bowl is often an afterthought in a set like this, but it's the perfect bowl for beating eggs for an omelette or scrambled eggs. It turns out I use all the bowl sizes as mixing bowls without lids and as storage or proofing bowls with lids.
Cooks Illustrated has shown that the lids are not as tight as some of the plastic bowls on the market. I believe them, but the compromise is worthwhile. I've had cylindrical bowls with lids from Pyrex for a long time, so I know that the lids will wear out in a few years. This is another compromise that I've accepted. To make the lids last longer, put them in the top shelf of the dishwasher, not the bottom. The larger ones don't fit in the top rack and so I do them by hand. These compromises prevent me giving a score of 5, but maybe that's unfair because I use Pyrex bowls all the time. They are very versatile (microwave, freezer, oven, storage, mixing) and I'm much healthier not using plastic bowls. I've looked at other products on the market and they are all less perfect for my needs.
Awesome! April 24, 2010 Tami (Moore, OK) I bought a Pyrex bowl set with lids 25 years ago. I still have them. My daughter is getting married and I thought I would buy some for her. I looked at Walmart, Target, Penney's, Kohl's and could not find them. Finally found them here. I can't believe that I didn't look here first and save me alot of time. Anyway, the bowls are terrific. They can go in freezer, refrigerator, microwave and oven. They will last forever. I bought my daughter a set and myself a new set (couldn't resist, price was too good).
Love Them But They Have Limitations April 21, 2010 busyperson7 (Ca) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I just love this set. I've had it now for several months and use it constantly. I really like the different colored lids which fit snugly and comfortably without being a pain to get off. They are nice vivid colors that have held up well even in the dishwasher. Also the sizes of the bowls are perfect for storing. They have been used a lot and still look like new. I ordered a second set so that I have plenty on hand because these are my new favorite storage bowls. I deducted a star because I wouldn't really classify these are great mixing bowls since they aren't deep enough and narrow enough for certain mixing bowl needs. I tried making mashed potatoes in the largest one with a hand mixer and it was a mess. So I use them when I don't need any electronic mixing and for storage containers and serving bowls. But overall, the quality is very good as it is with all the Pyrex products I've had over the years. Some of them I've had for over 20 years and they still look good! I would say a very good product but not really suitable for certain mixing bowl needs.
Great items, used for years, lids are bonus and unnecessary !! March 27, 2010 avraam jack (USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Have used these for years. No problems. Bought these because you get 4 bowls for good price - cheaper than ordering separately or in other combinations.
For those who obsess on the lids, keep in mind that you do not need the plastic lids. If you want to cover a bowl, choose the bowl that is one size smaller , flip it over and put it on top of the larger bow. The bowl is both covered and can contain more than with the plastic lid!
That works great in the microwave, if you want your food covered in the microwave. Best way to do a baked potato.
For example, to cover the 4 quart bowl, take the 2.5 quart bowl, flip it over and put it on top the 4 quart bowl.
Hope it helps !
Best bowl set ever! February 10, 2010 crazy8mom (SLC UT) Love the variety of bowl sizes, love the lids that match the bowls, easy to see the leftovers in the fridge. Perfect!
