5 out of 5 stars All Clad Saucier, Quality at Discount   December 28, 2008

We have been replacing all of our teflon coated pans that were ten years old, primarily because the teflon is literally falling off the pans. We have chosen to turn to All Clad for our replacement pans instead of the cheaper teflon coated aluminum pans that are less expensive.

Before I continue, All Clad is AMERICAN MADE. They are made in Pennsylvania. That is probably why they are more expensive. There are three different manufacturing styles that All Clad makes, the one reviewed here is the Stainless Series.

When you first open up the box for your pan, you will notice that the pan/pot is a piece of art. It shines and it actually looks beautiful. You hate to mess it up with grease or burnt food. But if you are a cooker, you will burn, spill, scorch and mess up your work of art, more than once. The neatest thing about this stainless cookware is that the outside and your lid will always look pretty. The technique they use to polish the exterior of the metal will for the most part remain that way. Now if you bang them around and drop them on the floor, all bets are off.

The saucier that this review looks at is a specialized pan in that it has rounded sides in order to stir your products with a round spoon--makes sense doesn't it. They usually come in small to medium sizes. The big sizes are your straight side pots that are designed for stews and soups. This pan is great for warming things up, reducing stocks, cooking small batch soups and chili's. We make custard for ice creams in this pot since it has a large surface area so that your custard will cool-down quicker.

As I said, we have been replacing our cookware with the Stainless series of All Clad cookware. If you are not in a big hurry to replace your cookware, take your time and shop around for open stock pieces when they are on sale. I can promise you that you will purchase the pans you really need, using this method, instead of the pans that All Clad wants you to purchase in their big sets. We have accumulated the ones we wanted by purchasing them open stock at numerous shops, most of which are located here on Amazon. And I think we have saved money over purchasing a complete set of cookware.
