| Customer Reviews: Great for gluten free treats September 7, 2010 T. Walker (Southern California, United States) I bought this product for my brother for his birthday. I made donuts for his family to show them just how easy it is to use. I made the first batch using the recipe in the book as written. Then I made another batch for myself using gluten free flour mix and substituting sugar-free stewed apple puree for the sugar. My mom said the gluten free version was better than the original. I cannot comment as I did not eat any of the original, but the gluten free donuts turned out wonderfully!
I used a plastic bag with the corner cut for the first batch and a small cookie scoop for the second batch to deposit the dough in the wells. The cookie scoop worked much better than a pastry bag as the dough just dropped away from the cookie scoop. It only takes about 1 1/2 tablespoons of dough per donut.
I highly recommend this product. I've only used it one time, but it was easy and fun for everyone in our group--4 years old to 62 years old.
Quick and easy to use. August 30, 2010 D. L. Kokkin (Cambridge) This donut maker is great. I was craving hot donuts and hence the purchase. The recipe is easy to make and creates about 20 donuts. The first couple of times I got out close to a waffle because I had put too much mixture in. Time to see what whacky flavours I can come up with now.
Junk! August 20, 2010 Melissa B. (Sacramento, CA) This product sucks. Really. I'm a cook and a baker. Usually do everything from scratch. Recently used a donut machine from 1920 called the Brown Bobby. Liked it so decided to get a donut machine of my own. These donuts don't bake on top properly. They are soooooooooooooo small. Returned it and bought a Bella Cucina donut maker at Macys. The donuts are bigger and browns more evenly. I usually buy most things from Amazon, great company. Not Amazon's fault. I appreciate that they stand behind their purchases.
Needs Improvment August 20, 2010 S. Pate (California) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The machine works fine....I suppose you could follow instructions and pipe batter in order to have a perfect hole but a rounded teaspoon (and indentation) works fine....The problem is the one and only recipe with the machine makes dry little lead lumps...I went on line and found a recipe with a little more liquid and it is improving but there is a decided lack of info on making an edible donut with this gadget.
That's a shame as it heats well, is easy to maintain and stores compactly in a small space.
Perfect! August 10, 2010 Zem (Sacramento, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this to give to my BIL as a birthday gift. He loves it! As soon as he opened it he took it to the kitchen to make us some donuts! They were SO good! It was also super easy to clean up, which is a huge plus! Easy to use, easy to clean, plus none of the deep frying so you don't feel as guilty :)
